" reports president obama wants a catch-all bill that would also bolster border security measures, ratchet up penalties for employers who hire illegal immigrants, and make it easier to bring in foreign workers under special visas. the white house will launch a social media campaign early next year. cabinet secretaries are preparing to make their case for how changes in immigration laws could benefit businesses, education, health care, and public safety. congressional committees could hold hearings on immigration legislation as soon as late january. with some republicans willing to come to the table and work towards a solution, the timing seems right for the cause. and it's the issue that just makes fiscal sense. as think progress points out, legalizing the 11 million unlimited immigrants in the united states could boost the nation's economy, tax revenues would definitely increase, and giving legal status to young educated immigrants would have a ripple effect, increasing wages and boosting employment. progressives are ready to back the president on this. as one service employees internatio

republicans called their bill to repeal obama care? i do. it was an act to repeal the job killing health care law. now, the whole job killing thing has always been a bit of a talking point myth. a nonpartisan study of the very similar health insurance mandate enacted six years in massachusetts showed, quote, no evidence of reduced employment as a result of health reform there. still, that argument, the whole job killing obama care thing, sent the owner of red lobster and a bunch of other very carb friendly restaurant chains on a hapless misadventure in corporate protest that culminated today in a public and embarrassing and informative way. back in october, company called darden restaurants announced they were putting more workers on part-time status in stead of full-time to see if they would be able to limit the cost of complying with the new health reform law. under the new law, big companies like darden have to either offer health insurance or pay a $2,000 fine for each full-time employee. over 30 employees who ends up using public subsidies to buy health care. you catch those words there,

the changes that they can. the consequence for folks at home is that it makes the power bills go up, and it leads to scarcity down the road. megyn: senator barack obama said if someone wants to build a coal powerplant, it's just that they will be bankrupted because they will be charged huge huge sums for greenhouse gases being emitted. could he effectively do it through the epa now what he was unable to do a cap-and-trade? reporter: sure, that is right. while liberal groups and others are looking for what the united nations is doing, what we used to call a kyoto at all, that process when he couldn't get a process through, he knows darn well he's not going to get through now. pushing out carbon heavy fuels like coal out of the u.s. energy mix. you mentioned west virginia. folks like democrats from those states are not happy about that. megyn: the nrdc says its approach will cost $4 billion a year. but they claim it will save over $25 billion each year in reduced pollution related illnesses like asthma. so we will wait and see if there's any action. thank you so much. dramatic new ama

are continuing their fight against the affordable care act. obama care. governor chris christie of new jersey became the latest republican governor to reject the creation of a state-run health care exchange today. christie vetoed a bill that would have started the process. instead, leaving the implementation up to the federal government. christie says the federal government failed to provide the answers he needed to make a fiscally sound decision. the move came after christie met with the president at the white house to discuss federal disaster relief. the state health insurance exchange is a key component to the obama care. it allows millions of middle class households as well as small businesses to shop for private insurance. states must decide by next friday if they want to set up their own exchange. they will -- they were allowed more time to mull over the decision after many republican governors delayed action. perhaps expecting a different outcome to the presidential election. new jersey is just the latest state with a republican governor to on the for the federal government to step in

's be clear, the bill being pushed there should be called the right to work for less, and that's exactly what president obama called it. to quote bob king, the visionary president of the united auto workers of this country, i quote him, every right to work state has lower wages, lower benefits, less security for their workers, and more income inequality, and they have a shrinking middle class. the u.a.w. is right. if you happen to live and work in a state that has a so-called right to work law on the books, you earn an average of $5,000 less a year than if you lived in a worker rights state. the bill signed last night in michigan strips labor organizations of their right to collect dues to cover the cost of negotiating a collective bargaining agreement. the michigan law is pure politics. no, it is more than that. it is old school, union busting technique, pure and simple. and in michigan and ohio, we know a lot about union busting. as the daughter of auto workers, i know the history of the hired goons who bludgeoned auto workers back in the 1930's at river rouge, as workers began to stand up
